Hi, new guy, so I shall try not to sound too stupid.

I have been considering a Nostalgia FC project, but it is not as easy as it may be for those in the States, Canada and the UK.

I live in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, an expat Canadian working here.

So, obviously there would be no class to race against, as if I did build, or buy a project, it would be the only one!

So, I see it as initially an enjoyable project, and for its time in Dubai, good only as a display item, but since I hope to move back to Canada in 5-6 years, it would then be able to be used as intended.

In terms of building, I can tig pretty well, having spent many years previously building Aerobatic Aircraft, Pitts, Etc, so I also enjoy sheet metal work, and assembly, fabrication.
Well equipped shop here, all tools, air, tig setup and a big garage.

Parts are an issue, nothing off the shelf here, but I do get back and forth to the states alot, so not a deal breaker. Just time and money:)

So, whats the big issue? well I have very little to no idea how to actually build one! I know I love the looks and thoroughly enjoy the action of watching them, but there it ends.

I have tried to research this, but beyond either buying a roller, or a complete car, there does not appear to be much written on building a car.

Don t suppose anyone has an idiots guide to Nostalgia Funny cars?

I was thinking of a Mark Williams chassis kit, any other suggestions?

but components, there are as many as there are existing cars it seems, so I could use some advice, to establish a direction.
Engine? suggestions, seems to be a huge amount of options here.
    Rearend, same,
    transmission, same,

I would like to find a chassis roller which didn't include the chassis, but had a good amount of the components, anyone seen similar for sale?
I really like the idea of welding the chassis.

I have managed to get some great advice from fellows running in the Nostalgia Altered class in the UK and spent time with the teams, but I could really use some direction specific to the US Nostalgia Funny car class.

If I can actually identify a build spec, then I can start looking, but until then, there are just too many questions.

    Thanks!

    idiots guide to NFC

chapter one. dont be an idiot and try build one from the ground up in a country where you have no help except by phone. so you can weld, it will help when you break things. you will spend alot of money trying to build one vs buy it turnkey for where you are. and if you are going to try and run it at all, even for show, it will at least be able to without all the "newbie" mistake you can make. that said, buy from somebody with a good name and willing to help, regardless of price. or you will piss away alot of money.

Thanks for all the replies, and some good advice.
I certainly understand the buy vs build comments, and it would probably be the most affordable way to get into a NFC, but to be honest, time is not a big issue.
I still have lots to learn,
    Cheers
