Brandon “The Kid” Lewis has winning on his mind at the NHRA Division-4 event at Thunder Valley Raceway Park

    BROKEN ARROW, OKLA – October 12, 2006
Second-year NHRA top alcohol funny car driver Brandon “The Kid” Lewis will settle in at Thunder Valley Raceway Park this weekend with one specific goal.

“We’re going to win,” the 21-year-old said. “We’ve been through a lot the second half of the season and this is the weekend that everything we’ve done needs to start paying off.”

The second half of the 2006 schedule has been trying at times for Lewis Racing Team, as the driver pointed out. Engines troubles proved costly in Brainerd and Ennis, the tires disappointed in Indianapolis and weather diminished its chances in Houston.

Lewis said things are going to changes in Noble, though, and it won’t be a matter of luck.

“We’ve got a new pair of Goodyear’s we’re comfortable with, the crew has some key experience and we’ve made a couple changes with the car that are going to make the difference,” he said.

With only the NHRA Finals in Pomona remaining on Lewis’s schedule, the stakes for this weekend’s Division-4 race are high.

“What it comes down to is we need our best showing this weekend,” Lewis said. “That way we head into Pomona with all of the confidence and experience we need to end 2006 the way we want: competing for the top spot at a national event.

The NHRA Division-4 event at Thunder Valley Raceway Park kicks off with Thursday testing. Lewis is scheduled for two testing passes. Qualifying begins Friday.
