I have a blown bbc with a pro mag 20. Getting spark to the plugs and it acts like it wants to fire with the starter turning but wont light up. The mag is phased in and i have triple checked everything from the grounds and all of the wiring. Any suggestions would be appreciated?

You never said you are first priming it with fuel from a squirt bottle into the hat. The other thing is if it is below 62 F you need to mix the alcohol 50/50 with gasoline or it will not fire.

Crank trigger or firing from the mag?
If trigger try going direct to mag then crank. Also like above plug gap is important should be 0.016 - 0.013.

you did't say how many volts to the starter . if you,re not running at least 16 volts you will have problems getting it to light .

Yea, those are mistakes we never forget. Watched a very fast promod team (name secret) go to the finals in cold weather and grabbed the wrong primer bottle with no gas in it. Car wouldn’t start so lost. He threw the bottle a mile when he realized it. I use 62 degrees as the cutoff point for using straight methanol. Below that you need at least a 50/50 mixture or even a 100% gasoline

You are not as cold as up here in Maine but nobody races Promods up here. Doesn’t hurt to use gasoline/petrol all the time.

Everyone wants to buy the newest stuff, I am surprised that VP hasn't brought out a starting fuel.

I have tried a couple of different types of gas. Race gas seems to hold up longer in the squirt bottle. we just keep a gallon or so in the trailer and start it on race gas, hot, cold day night whatever.
