I got some 1 gallon sealed cans of VP from a friend that stored it in his garage for about 10 years. All three of them tested fine.

does the nitro still have the yellow/green color to it? if so it should be fine if it has turned to a blue green color it has become unstable and should be used for weed killer.Nitro is non-hydroscopic it will not pull moisture out of the air like alcohol. hydrometer wont tell you mutch other than its nitro

What causes Nitro to become unstable? Just getting old or? Does it become dangerous to handle when in an unstable form? Just curious.

Stick an ice cold metal rod in it,and if there is moisture, that will get it out.The water will stick to the rod.
