Nitro Fever Team Learns Lesson's In Joliet

Joliet, Ill- Race weekend's bring out the best in the Nitro Fever Drag Racing Team. "It’s such a great feeling being on a team where everyone gets along," said Dave Hill, the driver of the Nitro Fever A/Fuel Dragster. "When things are down, the team comes together to solve the problems at hand or discuss how to make the team better."

During the United Association Route 66 Nationals at Joliet, IL the Nitro Fever dragster was unable to make a qualifying pass because Hill was not able to get the race car into reverse to back it up. “Sometimes a long burn out can over heats the clutch discs causing them to expand not allowing the driver to be able to back up the race car,” recalled Hill. “We initially thought this was the case.”

The following week the team returned to Route 66 raceway for the NHRA Division 3 Lucas Oil Divisional Series race. On the first qualifying attempt, Hill performed a shorter burnout (1.50 seconds under throttle) but was still unable to shift the race car into reverse. Once again the team was unable to complete the first qualifying pass.

“We realized there must be another problem keeping us from shifting the race car into reverse,” stated King. “Eventually we found the clutch pedal adjustment rod had loosened up and rotated out of adjustment.”

The A/Fuel Dragster was repaired for the second qualifying attempt. After the burn out the driver came to a stop pushed in the clutch pedal and slid the race into reverse. The dragster ran a 5.68 elapsed time at 242 mph after dropping three cylinders at about half-track.

On the teams final attempt the race car still continued to have fuel related issues. The nitro-powered dragster ran a lack-luster 5.79 et at 238 mph. The team was disappointed to not make into the big show on Sunday.

The team will head back to their race shop the car will have the normal maintenance and inspection of vital components. The pressure relief valve will be disassembled and evaluated.

Look for the Nitro Fever A/Fuel Dragster to be competitive at the Summit Motorsports Park Nationals located in Norwalk, OH. June 26th, 27th & 28th.
