From Bradenton: Bob Newberry is no longer working as Crew Chief for Alexis DeJoria. Sam Shockley is now heading up the team along with Nick Bastaio. It is rumored the team may switch to a BAE combination.

    From Pomona:
Randy Anderson is now working for Brian Thiel who has a complete new Murf McKinney car with a BAE 8 combination. Bob Miner is back on board with the Gasparrelli team. Ron August had Les Davenport on board as a consultant as well. Mike Austin was driving a 'team' car for Jerry Maddern, which sported dual 44 amp mags on BAE 5 heads. Shawn Cowie had a new Hadman chassis. Jason Rupert will be pulling double duty with one car, running his conventional TAFC combo and crossing over to Nostalgia Nitro FC with a Mert Littlefield tribute car.

    Daniel Oliver

I didn't get a chance to get to their pit to see exactly what the damage was, but I suspect a broken rear end lead to Daniel Oliver not making the call for the semifinals. The car was hauled back to the pit on a rollback, so it must have had some sort of significant driveline damage.

Don't tell Steve Chrisman that. That new 10.5 is bullet proof.

Major engine kaboom due to a broken fuel pump fitting that, according to the computer, let go just past 1/2 track. The Safety Safari didn't want us leaking all over the staging lanes and pits so they stuck it on a flat bed.

In order to keep our semi final win over Brian Hough intact we had to go to the scales with it on the flat bed. I told them to weigh the tow truck with my funny car on it, go unload it in our pit, take the tow truck back to the scales and weigh it again and subtract the difference. They waved us through. At fuel check the guys jumped up on the truck and made us give them a sample. I wish I had my camera with me.

What a mess. By the time we got it off the tow truck we didn't have enough time to fix it. I'm going to play a few rounds of golf before I depress myself by working on the car this week.

Hey Will...it was good seeing you again. Looks like you've lost some weight. Well, it's not too lost, I think I found it over here.

    Darren N - qualifing lap

I saw on a qualifing lap at Bradenton that Cantrell's car was hauling the mail on the low end before it lifted the blower. Correct?

Low numbers looked like a high 20. Correct?

would've, could've, should've - but looked stout if it held together.
