I just finally got the first ND of the year yesterday. Don't ask, my mail man needs an ass kicking every once and a while and he is due...

Anyhow, has anyone else had any nightmares after reading the rotor restripping article...

My nightmare last night was filled with bloody knuckles (my own), and chisel marks up and down the rotors...

I'm so glad that I'll never restrip a blower again, but the memory still haunts me to this day...

    restripping blowers

You could tell that was a staged picture because he wasn't bleeding and he didn't have every form of lubricant and grease clear to his elbows while struggling with the strips.

    Blower restripping

The need to restrip every 15-20 passes does not bother us. The bad memory for me would be not restripping the blower anymore, if the Class does not live . We want to see just how quick a roots will go.

It was nice having at least two blowers that were good and close.

So at least you didn't have to strip one between runs.

I remember some crew members that we could never find when it was time to strip... And of course that wasn't all that bad...

    Roots blowers

Years ago before I bought a screw blower I wrote letters to the NHRA recommending they outlaw the screw blowers so we all could run a roots blower. I didn't ruin as many parts with my roots blower as I do the PSI. Life seemed so much simpler then even with the occasional wrastling match with the restripping.

Dave- which parts do you feel suffer attrition strictly due to a screw(PSI blower) vs a roots type blower? I am confused here? thks,

    blowers

Mark why? You have only ran a screw once or twice and ruined a lots of parts.Manyother people have ran the screws and did not have the problems that you had do you think that maybe that there is something else to look at.Why try to chase everone away from the screw blower. I for one would never go back to bleeding nuckles. Maybe thats the only tune up you can adapt to?Sorry only my opinion. Mike

Mark- my question was a serious one. Perhaps you could contribute a serious answer- Can not quality parts and detailed assembly accompanied by proper tuning result in a quality run no matter the form of supercharging?

Anyone who wants to go back to a roots and the associated maintenance has got to be absolutely NUTS. when I helped Celko back in the blower wars days we were always chasing the blower falling off with the tuneup. We were running out of rotor for the damn stake marks! Three runs and we would have to re strip our mert mag case hi helix. I don't remember but I think it was like 5 or 6 k back then for a blower. Now I see the Kobelko's going for as much as the first PSIs were going for back then! ALso with IHRA bringing in a competing "pro" category funny car class I would think the wise money would be reading the tea leaves for the 07 season and start selling off your roots to the pro mods and considering NHRA. Or at the very least borrowing a PSI to work on a tuneup! (read that MORE fuel)

We did not ruin any Mike!, we know how much life we getfrom stuff now, and we know how much life top running DIV 1 guys get! its simple math. more power more RPM= less life!
