Hi everyone, I've been reading all the fantastic info on here for a while. It's a great site.
I'm new to the blown alky stuff and am in the middle of putting a 526 hemi together. I will be setting this thing up soft (1650 - 1800) hp) at first, 36% over drive 1471 littlefield with older Dart heads (it's for TD in NHRA div 1).
    I have a few questions.
My first one is, is there any particular converter company that you guys recommend for a powerglide dragster combo?
Also, noticed that a few of the alky cars out there use the 16 inch wheels but NOT beadlocks. Should I use beadlocks or not and what is the reasoning behind it?
I'm sure I'll have ALOT more questions as I move forward.
    Thanks for the great site.

I would reccomend Coan for a torque converter, although you're going to have problems running a powerglide with that combo; Lencodrive is the way to go. The options on rear wheels are either beadlocks or tubes/liners. I would reccomend beadlocks for your setup. The inner liners prevent tire shake, but you won't be in the power range where you'd have to worry about that.

Mikes Transmission. He had his dragster with his Monster glide/converter run a 5.97 at 232. He was using M/Ts on bead locks. (661) 723-0081.

    trans and converter set up's

    Frank
I have a 500 inch alky BBC, with a psi screw blower in a rear engine rail. We have been running one of Mikes Monster Glides for the past 6 years. we run in Top Eliminator West at a 6.30 index, and we run it up to 6.10. 228 mph on the final round when we get there. and I have never had a failure. Mike is a great guy to talk to and he helped me set up my rail when I got started, give him a call, you will not be let down.
    Good Luck

yep... call mike's! lots of guys build 'glides and i know everyone says "ah there's nothing to'em... anyone can build one" but mike's glides are unreal. we run a 90% nitro iron chevy in a fuel altered and i'm still running the first big glide i bought from mike. i think he normally uses contiental converters. sean
