    1) As far as radios to communicate with a driver ( in a Dragster TAD ) which racing radio set is the best ??

    2) Also anyone come up with a good fan system to remove the fog from the helmet in night runs ?? tried the soap stuff does not work !

    3) Last question : what is the tool they use to check the track rubber and condition ?? around $ 1200.00 I think ?

    thanks for the help !

I picked up a little 12 volt fresh air system with a cotton style air filter. It works perfectly to de-fog. And when it is filthy hot and dry, you can dip the filter in water and get some time of evap cooler. I will run one in all of my cars from here on out.

    soap

what kind of soap were you using and how were you applying it? it's not a one-time application. it's something you have to do every run where you think you might fog your visor.

that's why i liked it over a no fog visor or other treatments that eventually wear off. i knew i wasn't going to have a run where my visor fogged up if I applied dish soap every run. takes about a minute. i didn't remove the visor, just reached through the inside of the helmet.

I use Racing Radios, can talk to my dad at the turnoff at Chicago (long shutdown) while he's on the starting line. A lot of it has to do with where you mount the antenna. We don't use an external antenna anymore, just the rubber ducky that comes with the radio. The radio is mounted on the firewall/deflector plate behind the drivers seat at the very bottom. We use some old Motorola C1255 (I think that's the model #) so definitely nothing new/fancy. As far as reading track conditions, it's a Track-Meter, it measures coefficient drag. You can get them through competition motorsports (competitionmotorsports.com I believe) and Jerry Bickel also sells them.

full strength wright out of the bottle. put a drop or two on a paper towel or your finger wipe on and buff off with a dry paper towel. if you get to much on you might have to use a little water to get the cloudiness's off.

Go to your local dive shop and get Never Fog! Last longer than dish soap, I'm a diver so trust me;) Funny thing we found with my radios in the Funny Car, once we DIDN"T use the external antenna (wire broke) and went to the "stubby" on the radio (I didn't think would work) and it worked BETTER:rolleyes:

That’s because you need a 16 inch circumference METAL ground plain at the bottom of the antenna base. If you had it in Fiberglass or to a small pad or tab welded to the cage it was just like not having an antenna at all. Just the whip screwed into top of radio is all 99% of cars in a Drag application need. Will you get more range with an external antenna? YES Absolutely. If done correctly. BUT!!!!!! I’m of the school that the more parts that are on the car the more that can break. (Just like what happened to your antenna). A properly tuned pair of radios and mounted in a acceptable location in the car will reach from any starting line to shutdown turnoff in the world. So why add parts? Radio clarity plays a roll in this also. But that’s another 15 minute long post.

BTW Put a full size 5.5 whip on that radio instead of the stubby 3 inch and you will get better.

Interesting.....the Company I bought them from (not saying names) sent a square piece of copper sheeting apx 4" x 4" that we were supposed to (and did) put underside the body at the mount. Was "supposed" to be a shield?!

Copper is best to use as a ground plain for your particular application. A 4X4 just isn't enough. 16X 16 is desired. Obviously if you don't have the room for that large you have to do with the cards your dealt. But performance pays the price.
