Has anyone had problems with there mag backing the timing up. I have a Mike Dunn Mag drive and it seems I can not get the clamp tight enough and the mag backs up like 5 deg with the car running. I heard from a alky funny car friend that we need to add another clamp with a strut mid ship on the mag to prevent it from rotating. I guess they say the magnets are so strong it backs up from firing. Anyone else have this happen??

Have you tried the billet clamp?

    clamp

yes you need a top clam to keep it from rotating.

clamps do go bad. i've seen them so stretched the clamp was butted up against itself. that is the main mag clamp threads were bottomed out....there should be some space between where the nut tightens against the clamp and where the stud ties into the other side. if those two are butted against each other, you're going to have a hard time getting the clamp tight enough to keep the mag from retarding.

MSD advise to run additional clamp, seen mags move on setups without one almost every time.

I'm not following what y'all are describing. I have a dual mag setup. Are you talking about some kind of handcuff setup for single mags? Or are you talking about the mag clamp at the mag drive base to the block?

With a daul mag setup you should be using handcuffs. Also instead of the stainless band clamp there is a billet aluminium clamp that holds the mag to the base.
