I was just over at 1320tv and I saw the issue of the monostrut between Kloeber and the Powers camp... I dont know if anyone knows anything about this, but its very interesting how that deal came down... I don't see anything coming from the Powers side of the issue, but Kloeber was clearly offended by this... I must say, from his interview (which is rather long) it sounds like he got a very bad hand delt to him... I am not familiar with the Payne/Fuller connection, but I know Payne had been running a single wing on his Alcohol F/C... I wonder if there was some collaboration between them... Maybe Valvoline was pushing for it? Kloeber did state that Powers wanted it for a marking issue, maybe Valvoline wanted innovation? At least Powers is working with Kloeber... Maybe it'll turn into a co-op thing, and end up better for everyone (emphasis on maybe)...

Aside from the conflict of "intellectual ownership", what do people think about this monostrut wing? I think it looks pretty sharp, and it also gives that much more sponsoring space (which we all know is always wanted on a dragster).... When will we know if this is safer or faster?
    If anyone knows anything...

technicalities aside the monostrut wing looks superb, also

it allows a narrower rear end which in turn gives greater stability at speed and redeuced drag due to less exposed slick

it gives a stabilising effect to the rear of the car

if a crash such as that happened with Darrell Russel (RIP) the ring would disintegrate (being carbon fibre) and so would not endanger the driver

Looking superb... yes... I think its looks ultra modern... I definitely think that if the results are good it will be in the future of drag racing... I didn't even think about the narrowing of the rear... Wonder how that will change things...

Hot Rod Fuller just ran a 4.53 @ 326 mph at firebird this weekend with 2 cylinders out @ 1000 ft. that was the only pass I seen. don't know if he made any more full passes. car looked good.

We run a monostrut as I hope the pic will work?? Our wing area is 320sqin. with a 2.25 core x 12in long. This is a low speed wing 190mph...... no complants from this driver hehehehehe.

Don't forget that the whole monostrut idea and also running of the wing came from the man down in Florida. (Big) Sure glad it didn't take drag racing as long to convert to rear engines as the monostrut wing idea.

I'm sure as with most thing Big Daddy proposed they will become mainstream in time, they tend to even if people disregard them to begin with....the single greatest mind in drag racing ever

If I remember correctly Ray Alley and NHRA told Kloeber quite a while ago they weren't interested in accepting a monostrut so he pulled the plug on his development of it. Perhaps with Dan Olson filling Alley's shows he decided to allow it. But if that's true, by all rights Kloeber should have been the first to know. Sounds like the only one out of the bunch involved that had a conscience was Hadman. Though he too could have informed Kloeber as to what was going un much earlier than a few days before Kloeber would be seeing it on the track. I'm also wondering if NHRA disliked the idea of a ,then, IHRA oriented team being a leading innovator on their playground.

to be honest I think you could be spot on there....

they told Garlits it was illegal, he said sooner or later everyone will have one, looks like he will be right again the NHRa always had something against him

them Kloeber had it accepted, then thrown out again and now if Rod Fuller makes a series of safe/representative 300+mph runs NHRA will spec it, seems odd
