Semifinal appearance highlight of busy weekend in Memphis for Brandon “The Kid” Lewis

    BROKEN ARROW, OKLA – March 26, 2007
Before he left for the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series race at Memphis Motorsports Park, Brandon “The Kid” Lewis said a strong showing would foretell good things for Lewis Racing Team as it prepares for a busy season on the NHRA top alcohol funny car circuit.
The 21-year-old driver of the Aluminum Tank and Truck Accessories funny car delivered on the promise of a strong showing when he qualified fifth with a pass of 5.760 seconds. Lewis road his momentum past Jimmy Jones in the first round pairing before getting matched against Division-4 points leader Steve Harker in the semifinals.

“Harker came into this round about as hot as you can get,” Lewis said. “On any given day, we can beat him. Today just wasn’t our day. Our tires shook a little and he had another perfect pass.”

Advancing to the semifinals reinvigorated Lewis’s campaign to capture the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Division-4 championship, but the third-year driver didn’t chain himself to his car while in Memphis.

He spent Thursday behind the wheel of Tom Conway’s a-fuel dragster as he made two passes toward licensing in the class. Lewis Racing Team also spent Friday evening at dinner with members of the MidSouthDragRacing.com discussion forums.

“The weekend was a busy one for us – busy but very good,” Lewis said. “Driving the a-fueler was a great experience and we met a ton of fans this weekend. The best part and most important thing is we can be very proud of both our performance and the exposure we received. We have some great sponsors – like ATTA – who can be proud to be part of this amazing team.”
