    Reading In The Rain
The Texas Roadhouse Team wraps up Reading and heads for Bowling Green

Milford, Michigan – The rain in Pennsylvania almost became the top eliminator at Maple Grove Raceway’s NHRA Toyo Tires Nationals. After a three day burn-down in the staging lights, the rain finally gave up and NHRA won. Marty Nothstein and the Texas Roadhouse 2007 Dodge Charger Top Alcohol Funny Car waited out the rain, but its after-effects washed them out in the semi-finals.

While the weather during qualifying wasn’t promising, the Parker family-tuned Charger was. Nothstein planted the car in the number two qualifying spot, just behind Frank Manzo. In the first round of eliminations, the Texas Roadhouse team experienced their best-ever run, defeating Nancy Matter’s Camaro with an elapsed time of 5.571 at 259.96 miles per hour. Then the rains came and several competitors, including the team’s second round opponent, packed up for other commitments.

The wait for dry weather was a strain on nerves, but the Texas Roadhouse car was finally rolled up to the starting line, for the semi-final round, on Wednesday morning. Bob Tasca III, their opponent, had lane choice and he jumped into the obviously superior left hand lane. Realizing that would happen, Frank and Dan Parker were faced with how to quickly take power out of a perfectly hot race car. Nothstein did his part, with a .029 leave, while Tasca sat and counted up to .094. However, the detune wasn’t enough and the Charger’s tires shook the car out of its groove. Tasca was able to take advantage of the good lane and pulled off the win.

In spite of the soggy, extended stay, the ParkerTech crew was very pleased with the semi-final appearance and the career-best e.t. and top speed pass. The points from Reading solidify their number eight national standing and their lead in NHRA’s Division 3. The team will return to their Milford, Michigan base long enough to grab some spare socks and point the rig towards Bowling Green.

Beech Bend Raceway Park, in Bowling Green, Kentucky, hosts the last Division 3 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series race of the season, this weekend, August 24 – 26. The Parkers hope to duplicate their performance in Reading and improve upon it for the U.S. Nationals.
