Main Cap Torquing

    I would be very interested in your opinions on torquing 4 bolt main caps. Is it best to snug them all down to some lower torque first like 40 ft lbs the torque the inners first all the way and then the outer? Or do you think it is better to torque them down in some other order. We do not have cross bolts mains in our Ford Hemi.

    The question I would ask is how were they torqued prior to machining and honing. You might want to experiment with a dial guage or straight edge and see if there is a difference. Saw lots of main bearing problems with the Ford in dragboat racing years ago. Maybe they still run them. Some one must know. Let us know what you find. I would tighten from the inside as you say. That's my 2 cents
