    looking at going to mag does it take 24 volts to start all mags and what do you use to controll the mallory mag csn i pggy back the msd box or what thanks

    Rowalton: A magneto generates it's own current, no supply voltage is required. There is a lot of difference between Mallory and MSD mags, and no, you can't piggyback an MSD controller onto a Mallory SuperMag.

    When you say 24Volts I assume you are talking about the voltage to the starter. It doesn't take any additional effort to turn a mag equipped engine but it does take a higher cranking speed. I can't talk about the MSD promags (never owned one) but we went from a Mallory SMIII putting out around 3.2 Amps to a SMV at around 7.5Amps. We were able to start the car easily with 12volts on a heavy duty stock starter. But now with the higher amperage we are switching to a 24Volt deal to ensure we have enough cranking speed. (as per Spud's recommendation)
