Noticed the mag on the 4th pass this weekend, moving around pretty good, checked and found the shaft in the housing bent for reasons unknown. Also found the belt ready to fall off and crank bolt fell out,all were checked proir to run. My super mag 5 is old and the housing came from a nitro guy with alot of passes on it. I guess this first question, why would a 2 pc shaft bend in the 1st place?
I dont race every weekend and would like to get my altered to run 6.70-6.90 so we are not trying to rotate the world.I would like to have a limiter(have a psi now)Is the super mag worth keeping(with billit housing and shaft) or would it be wise to step up to a 12 or 20? Heck I would throw in a 44 if I knew it would be the way to go.Has anyone here been there and done that??
    Car specs: 496 kb, lenco 3 sp, 1471 ssi,110 pump,early dart heads.
    Thanks guys,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, John

RBS has a nice single drive, will work with your psi and has a single shaft all the way to the oil pump.

Your mag will work fine Shoemaker went 5.60 with a mag4. Your drive problem is that you shaft lengths are incorrect. This allows the mag drive to get out of the pump drive. I run a round tang extension that is set screwed to the mag shaft that makes the drive tang wider. I then press a ring on to the pump drive that has clearance for the mag drive. Use about .010 per side clearance. This will keep the mag engaged with the pump drive with lots of end clearance. Never had the problem again.

This Is Just My Opinion And This Along With A Dollar Will Buy You A Cup Of Coffee It All Comes Down To Money Yes The Msd Units Are Nice But The Super Mags Work Well. I Would Send It To Cirello Mags Let Tom Check It Out. Look At Your Drive Closey And See What Happened To It. Tom Has A New Coil That He Designed And Is For Alcohol Use Thats Real Neat Deal And I Think For The Money You Can Repair What You Have Alot Cheaper And Run The Times That You Are Looking For Without Spending Big Money For The Msd Hope This Helps Jamie

You might also want to take a look at the MSD 10 Plus. Only the MSD 44 puts out more energy to the plug. The 12 puts out 300 millijoules, the 44 puts out 950 millijoules and the MSD 10 Plus puts out 700 millijoules.
    Just another option.......Ron Clevenger

sorry to hear that.... do yourself a favor. send the mag to get checked. when i ran mallory mags i used don zig. you will need 2 mags because one always seems to be on the ups truck. also keep a supply of coils. any time you get the mag freshened, put a new coil on. if you put a fresh mag on with a junk coil ,it will hurt the mag . same deal with the coil. if the mag is bad and you try a new coil, and it doesn't help, it hurts the new coil. i spent a couple years chasing ignition problems and even tried dual mags which just causes your ignition bill to double. i finally spent the money for a msd and it was worth the money 100 times over. all you do is put a new coil ,cap , and wires on it each winter.

we have been running 2 mag 5 and never had a problem. I send them off after each year at the end of the season to get them checked out and yes I use Don Zig as for coils had good luck with them also. If you have any guesses ohm out the coils. as for your red top coils that is for alcohol.also i might add if you wanna sell your mag 5 let me know..1-620-249-5909

Watch how you mount the coils. The coils are oil filled. Do not mount with the high voltage lead up. Mount them with the high voltage lead pointed to the rear. I ran the same coils for 6 years with out a failure.
