Maddern Racing Prepares for Battle in the High Desert

Tucson, AZ – Jerry Maddern, Chris Demke and the crew of the Peen Rite Top Alcohol Dragster are on their way to Southwestern International Raceway in Tucson, Arizona, to compete in the second 2010 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Division 7 event March 26-28.
“After the LODRS event at Phoenix Feb. 26-28 was postponed mid-race I am anxious to get back to racing “ stated 3 time Division 7 Champion Chris Demke. “It’s been six weeks since our victory at Pomona. I don’t this team to get rusty!!!”

The team returned the racecar to Maddern Racing Headquarters after the Phoenix postponement and prepared their combo for racing in the high desert environment of Tucson, Arizona. “Tucson is about 2500 feet above sea level” explained Kevin Watson, crewman for Maddern Racing. “Add in temperatures from 75-85 degrees and the Density Altitude at the track can soar to over 5000 ft! I think we are ready for whatever the weather throws at us.”

“Our team has done well at Tucson in the past” added crewman Mike Demke. “We runner-ed up in ’04 and won in ’05. I am confident that Maddern will have the Peen Rite dragster running strong this weekend.” The team has added incentive to do well this weekend. This is the last event to get points that will count toward earning a spot in the Jeg’s AllStar Race, to be held in Chicago later this year.

Maddern Racing’s ‘team car’, the LAD Automotive Top Alcohol Dragster, owned and driven by Mike Austin from Medford, Oregon will participate in the race as well. “I am excited to continue developing the tune-up on Maddern’s experimental motor combo” said Austin. “Based on how the LAD Automotive dragster performed in Pomona I think we are headed in the right direction.”

The gates open at 7:00 am Friday, March 26, with Round One of qualifying for the Top Alcohol cars at 3 pm. Qualifying will continue on Saturday, March 27 at 12 noon and 4 pm. Round One of eliminations is scheduled for Sunday, March 28 at Noon. Go to www.sidragway.com for more information.
