    Maddern Racing Hits the Road

Phoenix, AZ – Jerry Maddern, Chris Demke and the crew of the Peen Rite Top Alcohol Dragster are headed to Firebird International Raceway, just east of Phoenix, Arizona, to compete in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Division 7 season opener February 26-28. Fresh off their win at Pomona two weeks ago, the team hopes to carry their winning momentum into this weekend’s event.

“Getting the win at Pomona was big for our team, REAL big” explained Demke. “We celebrated our victory the whole week after Pomona. But we are done patting each other on the back. We serviced the racecar last weekend and the team is now focused on the next race: Phoenix.”

“Phoenix has been good to us” stated Kevin Watson, crewman for Maddern Racing. “Over the past 7 years we have three wins and three runner-ups at this event. Crew Chief Jerry Maddern knows this track well.” The team has added incentive to do well this weekend. Points received at this event count toward earning a spot in the Jeg’s AllStar Race, to be held in Chicago later this year.

Maddern Racing’s ‘team car’, the LAD Automotive Top Alcohol Dragster, owned and driven by Mike Austin from Medford, Oregon will participate in the race as well. “Big Mo’ is on r side!” texted Austin as he prepared to head south towards Phoenix. “I am excited to continue developing the tune-up on Maddern’s experimental motor combo” said Austin. “Based on how the LAD Automotive dragster performed in Pomona I think we are headed in the right direction.”

Taking over clutch duties this weekend for Maddern Racing will be Corey Hupp from Tujunga, California. Servicing the clutch is nothing new for Corey. He previously crewed for Maddern Racing during the 2004 and 2005 racing seasons helping the team win eight Division races and two Division 7 Championships. “Corey is replace Adam Rhoades on clutch duties, and that’s a big hat to fill” said crewman Mike Demke. “But I don’t think Corey will have any problems, he has a big head!!!”

The gates open at 7:30 am Friday, February 26, with Round One of qualifying for the Top Alcohol cars at 3 pm. Qualifying will continue on Saturday, February 27 at 12 noon and 4 pm. Round One of eliminations is scheduled for Sunday, February 28 at Noon. Go to www.firebirdraceway.com for more information.
