I am in need of a Ford 9 inch Ring and 28 spline pinion, 9 inch Ford. I built a front engine twin engine in 1970. last year I broke the rear. After buying through two Mfg gears, Motive and Richmond I find out no one in America or third world countries make Ford OEM spec splines. They are up to .008 inches tolerance from the Ford I used in 1970. Running a direct coupler with no U joint it has to be a palm press fit yoke to spline. The ones made today you slide it on with your pinky, turn it upside down and the yoke falls off. Talked to every American Mfg and distributor of gears and all say things have changed. So, does anyone know where I can obtain a gear set where the pinion spline Major diameter is 1.2095 to 1.210 rather than the 1.203 made by all gear Mfgs today? I use a Ford Yoke and a 727 Chrysler Governor support, weld them together, after machining to accept a high pressure tube. The problem with the new pinions are they allow a .015 drift center to center when the pinion nut is tightened and the output shaft of the tranny will not engage the splines in the coupler once it's pulled off center due to the slop in the pinion splines. I will even take a used ring and pinion as long as it is an OEM spline, even a 4.10 ratio or higher to 4.56 will do.
