Lock Up Clutches

    Hey guys I currently have a 3 disk Crower 10.7 I am wanting to run it like a lock up. Is it possible to do this? I hear that the fingers are different heights on the lock up deals, if so where can or do you get them. Also who sells or how can you make the release work? DO you just use a stout air piston on the clutch pedal? Any and all info will be appreciated.

    Not sure if you can do that but it would be interesting to find out. Crower's clutch dept. number is 619-690-7848. They are easy to talk to and willing to help.

    Lock-up clutches

    Usually there are two ways you go about designing a lockup clutch without having "clutch management".

    1. Different weight/design levers - Different size/weight/design levers add plate load at different times through the RPM band. We'll call them Primary and Secondary levers. Your primary levers are your main tuning levers and that do the work in the lower part of the band. Secondaries really start coming in as the RPM's get higher because they are usually smaller in size, but still bring plate load to the clutch. This type of setup is almost identical to what the Nitro boys run, only you don't have the added benefit of the cannon. It's the more crude of the two designs, but still VERY effective when done right.

    2. Similar to the first, only using springs working against the secondary levers. The springs are set against the lever and because of this the levers only start adding plate load once they reach an RPM to create the force to overcome the spring. Kind of a neat deal. This gives you a better separation between your primary tuning levers and when the secondaries would come in. The first design allows the secondaries to work all the time, just the plate load grows exponentially with RPM.

    You can run a standard pedal clutch to be a lock up, but your tuning window is pretty much Zero in the can and you wind up tuning with everything else you can change.
