I'm in the market for a 2 piece suit. What is the lightest/thinnest around?

Simpson Diamond Lite, I have a one piece sfi 20 and even it is very cool. I can feel the wind blowing through it, kind of heavy but not very bulky. I like it alot.

I'm in the same situation. I am just now putting together a blown alcohol altered. I am very close to it being finished so I need to think about the details. If I read all of the rules correctly, I have to have a 15 or 20 fire suit because of it being an open cockpit, blown alcohol with a front engine. Can someone direct me on exactly what I need to pass the NHRA requirements, and also keep me from turning into a "crispy critter" should the worst happen.
Don't take me wrong here, I'm not trying to "only" meet the requirements. I want to be safe!:)

I really like my Simpson 20 one piece. Problem was it took 4 months to deliver so plan ahead. That is what you need for blown alcohol altered, even if you didn't why not go for the best protection available. I also wear oakley carbon x underwear and even on the 100 degree days stay somewhat comfy. As far as boots and gloves go general regulations call for 20 but advanced et rules call for 15. I would wait for new rulebook before purchashing these items. I have both but wear the 15's. The 20's feel like casts on your hands and tough to air shift until I break them in more. I also use the Simpson funny car helmet with nomex skirt. I have had two blower belts saw through the guards and take out the fuel lines dousing me with alcohol fortunately with no fire and it never hurts to be too prepared.

Whoops, I'm sorry my last suit was a Simpson two piece which was too heavy. Now I have an Impact one piece which is much lighter and I like it but took 4 months to get. What you need to find is a company that will recertify the suit to its specs (20) after your five years. I sent the Simpson 20 in and they returned it certified as a 15 so now I have a nice boat anchor that won't burn.

Dave....i use a 20 suit, wouldn't wear anything else. mine is an older stroud 2 piece....a little heavy, but not that bad. i want a lightweight Impact Carbon X suit. if i were you this is what i would do.....open the rulebook to the TA/FC class.....use everything that is required for them in your altered, that's what i did. boots, shoes, suit, head sock, helmet ( no fresh air) hans, and gloves....even the underware if you wish. my way of thinking on this is sometimes even when you have everything they say you need, people still get burned. don't skimp on safety, you might only have 1 chance at this.;)

    light weight vs heavy weight

the new simpson and impact suits are definitely lighter and 'slicker'

what i've been told is that the carbon x stuff doesn't protect against liquid very well. i think that would be something to consider in an open body car.

it's hard to beat the service from dennis taylor on getting a suit. i've been very happy with my taylor/phoenix suit and i've worn simpson, impact and taylor boots, and i think the taylors are way nicer. the way the boot is constructed along with the cinch strap location really locates the heel well and keeps it tight on your foot.

i got my custom tailored suit pretty quick from DT.

Thanks for all the input. I've been talking to Dennis and I think I'm going to go with him. His service on other stuff has been great.
