I have a cs1 lenco 4 speed my question is how do I determine on a gear set if its fine or course.
I want to buy one but really don't know the difference . I have had mine a part before , but not sure what part is considered fine or course.
    any help please.
    thanks Jimmy

Look at the spline in the ring gear. It will be either coarse or fine. I can't remember what the spline count is on the coarse ones but there is only about 6 or so.(hard to miss)

Ken, (or anyone else), is this the same spline count on a CS-2? An can you have a 6-spline Bruno style input but have the rest of the internals be fine spline? Have had it apart to check clutches but never knew exactly what to look for as far as spline count.

I don't know anything about the Bruno, but the CS2 should have the same size of output splines.

Yes I have a Bruno 6 lug front and all fine spline to the tailshaft. It is just a different ring gear for the front gear set.

x2 I also have a bruno front gear set the rest is 32/27 spline...
Another note is Cs2 has 35/32 (large spline) and 32/27 (small spline) options....
The first higher number is the ring gear and the lower number is the gear set..
Normally the way to work out what you have is to pull the input shaft out and count the teeth.
if its 35 its large and 32 is small. But like mine being bruno its 6 lug.
If bruno you got to look inside where the input shaft came from and count the smaller inner row of teeth ,this would be tricky
with the inner shaft in it.but it gets you the second number eg 32 or 27 then you know what you have.

I have known fine and course been mixed through the separate sections. We had a box that run fine spline on front section with course on rear section. Take it apart and it will be clear to see. If its a new box then it will be fine spline.

Well I finally got around to taking my tranny apart to count the splines, I always thought I had the smaller spline CS-2, the input is the Bruno 6-spline but right behind it the ring gear is 32 spline as is all of the internal shafts, but the outer (hollow) shafts of the gearsets are 24-spline, not 27. More confusing (tranny is 3-speed with 25% and 41% split) there are two 25% gearsets listed on the Lenco site, (copy/pasted below)

1.25% (Small shaft gearset) Uses 32 tooth planet gears, a 22 tooth sun gear and a 86 tooth ring gear.

1.25% (Large shaft gearset) Uses 36 tooth planet gears, a 25 tooth sun gear and a 98 tooth ring gear.

My tranny has the 98 tooth ring and 36 tooth planet gears, so according to the Lenco site, I've got the big shaft tranny. Need to sell it, but need to be able to tell the buyer exactly what it is, because that's usually the first question asked. Any ideas???

    Sounds like its Large shaft...
the hollow 24 ones dont count its just each end of the
inter shaft.the front of the shaft will be 32 and the rear is 35
if small then the front will be 27 and the rear is 32...
To be 100 percent pull it apart and check all the shafts...

    Thanks Turbo,

Think I've finally got it clarified in my head, was getting confused about the big hollow shaft being part of the equation. The new owner should be getting it tomorrow and I feel better knowing that it is what I thought it was when describing it to him.
    Thanks again...
