We've recently swapped from a powerglide to a 3speed Lenco transmission in our funnycar and just had our first race meet and I was looking for some idea what you guys do as far as servicing the lenco and how often it needs to be done? It was serviced by lenco before it went in the car and now has 7 runs on it. 526KB 14/71HH bracket car running 6.60s.

    Thanks for you help.

    Leonard who?

im sure ill get some flack on this, but checking tower pressure with a known tool with a fish scale (even if you have air towers) is a good place to check for wear without tearing it down. change oil often and check for debris(yes there will be a lot of trash, but nothing large ie. roller bearings and such. golden spectre motorcycle oil is good. has heavier numbers, but pours like thin oil is good for this. I would change oil every time to track 4-8 runs and inspect oil. im sure this will give you time to check clutch, since its time to inspect it too !

Well the first question is if it is a CS-1 or a CS-2 transmission. On the CS-1 you should do pull checks maybe every other race to see if the clutch packs are good. On a CS-2 there is no pull check once the pods have been set. On both model transmission you should change the oil after so many races. Since you are not bracket type car then probably changing the oil every two races would be good preventive maintenance. A good 10w-30 motor oil should be used. One quart in each section except the reverser section which only needs a half quart.

You have to buy a manual tower with a special lever from Lenco. Then you need a fish scale. I have always used the Manley brass scale because it has a memory ring so you can look and see what the pull was.

You remove the pod and screw in the manual tower until in makes contact with the pin on the fork then back it out TWO turns then attach the lever and make a smooth straight pull to the rear of the tranny. The first pull will always be off so you should do several pulls. If you can't bring the pull to where you want it within a half a turn of the tower then you should check the clutches and pack adjustment. If they are good then you change the shims. You can buy a set of different thickness shims from Lenco. It requires some time to do the initial pull correctly and may require several openings of the CS-1 case to change shims. Once you have it set correctly and have the correct clutch pack setting then all you have to do is always set the clutch pack to the same measurement. When you put the air pod in you still back it out only ONE turn.

Call Mick at Snyder Motorsports, he has the scales ready to go. Their number is 219.987.2921.
