Guys if I could have some help with this it would be most appreciated!

We went out this weekend with my buddies nostalgia nitro funny car. Unfortunately on the only pass we got to make, the revereser plentary came apart, why? We are getting another planetary set and I do NOT want this to hapen again. So if there is a standard procedure to keep these things alive, please inform me. Also is there an upgrade, beefier unit that will work? This is a fine spline CS1. I've had many folks voice their opinions but tought I would ask the masses here that use these things regulary. My B&J in my nitro car last year worked flawlessly. No room in the footbox for a B&J in this car.

    Thanks alot!

    CS1 Reverse

What part of the planet set came apart. Did the planet pins fall out, carrier fail? etc
Each result has a slightly different cause. I have done a few that the drivers just plain back up to fast, or they try to put it in reverse when they are still going forward. Not saying that is the case here but a little bit of specific info will help.

    Corey,

I was driving, and since I was aware of the fragility of the Lenco reverser, I was certain to be stopped before engaging in reverse. It went in fine, then 2/3 of the way back dropped out and that was it. We had a problem with the hex lever that bolts to the reverser engagement shaft. It is aluminum and the hex is stripped out of the center. What I do not know is if the arm stripped prior to the burnout and never fully engaged reverse? Or if it stripped out on me when I was trying to put it back into gear after it came out of reverse. I felt in lock in after the burnout, but I could not tell you with uncertainty that I had it fully engaged.

The sun gear has stripped teeth and so do the planetary gears. "Appears" to my untrained eye that something (debris) locked into the planet and sun gear. Hard to tell if a planet gear locked on it's pin because all of them are shaved and now do not turn nice at all. All the pins are still in them.

    Thanks,
    Ketih

    Lenco

It sounds to me like the reverse slider may have broken some teeth off. I am a fan of Lencos but the reverse sliders I am not a fan of, when you select reverse the teeth that drive you backwards are very weak, even if the track is un-even it can break them. If those teeth broke off they may have travelled into the planet set causing the damage. This problem gets worst with sliders that have a neutral groove in them. Get a steel lever made or have a few spares to replace. I can't say all this was the problem without seeing anything but thats my guess.

However, would call Lenco and run this all by them.
