Callaway looking to rebound in Virginia

DINWIDDIE, Va. - Following a disappointing first round loss two weeks ago in Dallas, NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster driver Lee Callaway and Team Owner/Tuner Tom Conway hope to rebound at their sponsor's race, this weekend's Torco Race Fuels Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park outside of Richmond. Based on strong numbers in post-event testing, the Skull Shine/Torco Race Fuels team feel they have found the root of their ignition problem.

Callaway, of Baytown, Texas, has won two divisional races since taking over the driving chores for Tom Conway midway through the year. Since teaming up with Conway, who won the World Championship last year as a car owner, the duo have yet to score on the national event level and hope to do so this weekend

"We had a problem in the ignition system in Dallas," said Callaway. "We finally found it before the first round, but we qualified in the lower half and had a tough competitor in Morgan Lucas the first round and came up a little short. Kate Harker tested the car on Monday and ran a 5.35 in the car with a point A to B licensing tune-up, so hopefully we'll be able to pick up right there this weekend."

"This is our sponsor's race, so we want to do well," Callaway continued. "We've done well on the divisional level, so hopefully we can get our first national win here. The conditions look like they are going to be pretty good, so it should be a fast weekend."

Qualifying begins on Friday and concludes on Saturday. Eliminations begin with round one on Saturday afternoon and will conclude the event on Sunday. Stay tuned to InsideTopAlcohol.com for the latest news in alcohol racing.
