Bill - I'm interested in your post, but I don't understand the content. Can you explain it differently?

Your new sfi 17.1 fire bottles must be re-certed every 2 years from now on. If that's not f'd up enough after 6 years you have to throw them away due to expected service life.

    bottles

. Barry, it appears that SFI is giving us a heads up that all fire bottles will need to be replaced after the second recert..that should be the next time for most. I believe all other dot bottles need to be hydro static tested, but not sure if that is the intention here. Just wanted it out there since it was posted last week on sfi web page. I wouldn't want to get blindsided sending them to recert and find out the price is way more than I was expecting..not to mention wasted shipping..If anyone does get hit with this I hope they will post what happens..mine aren't due yet.

    handle

I have not heard back from J Collins yet, but he did get details of mine and said they were going to look at clarifying it.. the material spec...it doesn't say which alloy or how wide it should be...in another note, when I wrecked last spring, the sorest part of my body was where my knee slammed the tubing handle, so I'd already considered aluminum.I might need to go back to the tube handle now.if it is approved. at least temporarily

Bill - if someone wrecks, i don't think slamming your knee into steel or aluminum matters much. a racer must have made a handle out of an old piece of conduit and it bent. hence the new rule. i made a new one last year. it's 5/8 OD - 5/32 wall steel tubing. but i guess it's headed for the scrap heap.
