Can anyone tell me the recommended main bearing clearance for a Blown Alky KB OLDS?
Also how much main tunnel vertical closure is acceptable?

we run .0035-.00375 main clearance on a solid block with steel caps. It works but we're going to try around .004 next year. Not sure on your second question. If you mean out of round, our mains are always a little tighter on the vertical dimension and wider at the parting line. Also, you can run the main bores several thousanths oversize. This will increase clearance so you have to adjust accordingly. Mike

    KB Olds oil issues

Mike did you ever get your oil situation under control? We run 14 qts of Brad Penn 70 in the summer and non street legal Valvoline 50 wt in the colder months here in the northeast, and the bearings look good, but the oil light comes on after the burnout and after the pass when the chutes hit. The sender for the pro lite is at 50psi. I've been unable to see what the oil pressure is doing on the pass, first year with the new car. The oil pan has one trapped door, and whomever made it drilled 1 hole on each side of the door. We run a Titan pro oil pump and have 3/8" clearance between the bottom of the pan and the sump. The oil pan will hold 12qts of fluid just up to the bottom of the windage tray. Engine and therefore oil pan are pitched nose down by 4 degrees. We run a remote oil filter, and each line from the block to the filter is approx. 3 feet long. Thanks for any input.

    add one

    keith-

keep adding a quart until that light quits coming on. that's going to bite you and significantly lower your engine life. trust me, that oil level won't be close to the crank long.

    Thanks Will,

That was the plan, I was nervous about having too much in the pan and foaming the oil and causing more problems. I'll add another quart in 2 weeks when we go back out, and keep an eye on the pressure. Plans for next year are to put a new shallower pan on (I only have 1.75" of ground clearance) with a 3 qt accusump.
