Kate Harker collects another final round appearance in Norwalk

Norwalk, OH. - Australian rookie NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster driver, Kate Harker made it to her second consecutive NHRA National event final at this past weekend Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals at Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio. Harker recently drove Tom Conway’s Skull Shine / Torco Race Fuels backed entry to a runner-up finish four weeks pervious at the Torco Race Fuels Route 66 NHRA Nationals held at Joliet, I.L.

Kate, whose identical twin sister Diana is close to making her Pro Modified debut, qualified Conway’s injected nitro dragster third in the field with a 5.328 second elapsed time at 264.80 mph. In round one, Harker defeated a tire smoking, Robin Samsel with a 5.386 at 263.05 mph, and then took out fellow division four racer Darryl Hitchman with her quickest pass of the weekend a 5.286 at 268.01mph. In the semi-finals, Harker defeated a redlighting John Finke with another impressive 5.283 at 269.24 mph run giving her lane choice in the final over reigning National Champion Bill Reichert.

The final round would be a re-match form the Torco Race Fuels Route 66 Nationals held in Joliet, I.L four weeks previous in which Reichert defeated a tire smoking Harker. Again the result was similar after Harker fouled out by .006 of a second, handing Reichert the win and throwing away a 5.268 at 271.30 mph pass, and the quickest elapsed time of the weekend for the Top Alcohol Dragster category.

“We had one of the fastest hot rods on the property during eliminations,” comments Harker “It’s a horrible feeling to do that well and throw out our chances of a first National event win on a red light, but that’s racing, we’re keeping our heads high and are looking forward to moving on to our next race event.” “Tom is an awesome tuner and teacher, I am proud to be driving his dragster and representing all our sponsors, this is a great result regardless of the outcome.”

Harker’s father, Steve who competes in NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car had been scheduled to compete at this event but after the loss of a close family friend Steve and his team returned to Gainesville, G.a., but plan to make a return to racing action soon.

“It was a tough weekend for a lot of reasons,” said Kate “We lost a great family friend and a fellow Alcohol Funny Car racer on Wednesday night previous to the Norwalk event. Peter Osterio was a man that I considered my mentor, he was an innovator in so many areas of his life, and he was passionate about life too.” “He will be missed but will always be in our hearts and prayers.”

The next race event for the Conway Racing, Skull Shine / Torco Race Fuels team will be at the Schuck’s Auto Supply NHRA Nationals held in Seattle, W.A. across July 20-22.
