Kate Harker makes triumphant return to racing

Brainerd, MN. - For Australian NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster driver, Kate Harker, her return to racing action at this past weekend Lucas Oils NHRA Nationals held at Brainerd International Raceway in Brainerd, MN was marked as both an emotional and triumphant feat. It was two weeks previous that the 24 year old rookie suffered a horrific blow-over incident at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, CA completely destroying the race car and Harker was lucky suffering no major injuries from the incident.

Tom Conway’s Skull Shine / Torco Race Fuels team went on to purchase a spare A/Fuel Dragster chassis owned by Morgan Lucas and were able to return to racing after spending a hectic week preparing the new race car. Harker qualified the new car in eighth position with a 5.514 seconds elapsed time at 259.96 mph. In round one, Harker defeated Troy Buff with her quickest pass of the weekend a 5.496 at 255.10 mph and was then to line up against Bill Reichert making this a rematch of the Chicago and Norwalk finals.

In round two, Harker gets the starting line advantage over Reichert with a 0.069 to 0.109 in reaction times but has troubles with the car and clicks it off early. Reichert runs through for the win defeating Harker’s 5.656 at 202.73 mph pass with a 5.272, 269.40 mph run his quickest of the weekend. Spencer Massey went on to win the event defeating Morgan Lucas in the Finals.

“This was a very emotional weekend for me and the team” comments Kate “Just being there and making laps in the car helped with re-building my confidence and the teams. I was already talking with Tom on the Sunday after the incident in Sonoma about getting back in a race car. I had no doubts about jumping straight back in the driving seat, I knew that it was the best thing to do even though it was going to be mentally tough, but I really felt like I took big steps this weekend.”

The team would like to thank Evan Knoll and all the people from Skull Shine / Torco Race Fuels, Roger Burgess and ProCare RX and all their friends and family for their support over the past few weeks and through out the racing season.

The next race event for the Conway Racing, Skull Shine / Torco Race Fuels team will be at the Lucas Oil Division Five event held at Heartland Park Topeka across August 24-26.
