<img border="0" src="http://insidetopalcohol.com/johnsonnplaunch.jpg" width="400" height="258" align="left">ATLANTA – The Etterman Racing Team had a bumpy weekend in Atlanta for the NHRA Summit Racing Equipment Southern Nationals. After the qualifying sessions, the team seeded ninth in the qualifying field. This set up a first round match with John Sullivan and his Crazy Horse car. After taking a hole-shot win and posting a 5.827 to 5.825 victory, Johnson hit the chutes and subsequently kinked two rods out of the engine. The team scrambled to try and repair the car, but it was to no avail as a mangled lifter kept the team from making their quarterfinal match up with Dave Ray.

“This was a tough race for us,” George Etterman states. “We feel like we’re headed in the right direction, and I think you’ll see a significant difference in the upcoming races. The team is ready for more success and I can’t wait either. We are working diligently to get this car, the team, and Jonathan in the winner’s circle,” Etterman asserts.

“It was nice to get a hole-shot win, but on the same note it shouldn’t have had to have been,” Jonathan admits. “As I look back, the car moved around some down low, and everyone knows the quickest way to the finish line is straight. We lost some elapsed time because of that, and consequently a motor after the finish line. Things are becoming second nature to me, and I think that is a big step. It is unfortunate we were not able to get the car back for the quarters, but we will be ready in Topeka at the end of the month. I’m looking forward to Topeka, and maybe even more than I had for the first race of the year!” concludes Johnson.

“This weekend was very touch and go for Etterman Racing,” Katie Ward says. “Not only did we have to compete with the weather, from off and on raining, but also, the hurt parts directly affected our weekend outcome. Even though we did not qualify and finish as high up in the ranks as we would have liked, Etterman Racing had a great weekend in the rain full of fun and laughs. Our entire crew loves the racetrack and greatly looks forward to Topeka in a few weeks. Moreover, we hope the weather will hold out and put Jonathan Johnson and the Bar’s Leaks Dodge Stratus in the winner’s circle,” Ward states.
