John Evanchuk and the Red Wolf team debut their 012 season at the first NW regional event.

John Evanchuk Red Wolf Funny Car.jpg The Edmonton based Red Wolf TAFC team and team owner John Evanchuk could not wait for the May Memorial long weekend to get here. After a long, long winter in Edmonton Alberta, the team was looking forward to their first event of 2012. After a few changes over the winter the team was confident they could come out and compete with the best in the NW. Right out of the gate they ripped off a 5.71 in the test n tune on the Thursday. Then they made three consecutive 5.60 laps in qualifying. Their 5.67/255 best put them in the #3 spot in the field. They would face Brian Hough in round one. John got a good hole shot in that battle, but the car shook real hard starting at 100 feet, John tried to peddle the car but the shake caused the belt to rattle off ending his day way earlier than planned. “We kind of went the wrong way with the clutch Sunday morning. The 1000 feet of better air, was going to be a challenge especially when the air earlier in the weekend was already better than we get at any of the other races we attend. But when it hits 500 feet you have serious decisions to made, we should have been more aggressive, and we will know that for next time. This was a race we let get away from us”, stated Evanchuk after the event. It was still a solid start to the season turning in four runs within .04 of each other. The nest race is at Edmonton and the Rocky Mountain Nationals. From there, they head back South to Seattle the beginning of August then the Vegas / Vegas / Pomona trio at the end of the year.

The Red Wolf team’s corporate support comes from AFD Racing (the Ebert race team), Broker Link, Cougar Paint, Jet Equipment Canada, O’Hare Energy, Mirror Image, CMax, Duraguard Fence, ‘Cuda Parking Lot Maintenance, Wabasca Energy, Baystar, Lucas Oil Capital Gear and Impact.

John and wife Ruth’s crew includes tuner Bill Moore, Shirleen Moore, Al Heshka, JD Dennis, Matt Walters, Thomas Zeron, Derryl O’Hare, James Derkoch and Daniel Derkoch.
