Jones looking to bounce back in Houston

BAYTOWN, Texas - After starting the year with a weekend plagued by problems, ironically at a track named No Problem Raceway just outside of New Orleans, former two-time NHRA Division 4 Top Alcohol Funny Car Champion Jimmy Jones and the Kelly & Jones Tremor Racing team will be looking to bounce back at this weekend's O'Reilly Spring Nationals at Houston Raceway Park. The team hopes to put their problems behind them and return to the consistency that netted them back-to-back Division 4 Championships in 2005 and 2006.

Jones, a Pharmacist when not racing in Cleburne, Texas, is hoping for a fresh start in Houston.

"For a track called No Problem, we sure had a bunch," said Jones. "That's just part of racing sometimes, unfortunately. This is the first national event of the year for us. You hope to do well at a race like this to lay the ground work for the next few divisional events. We had some parts breakage in Louisiana that kind of took the wind out of us, so hopefully we've put that behind us."

"The air was so good down there, and we were trying some new things," Jones continued. "It shook pretty hard every run. We found some problems with the clutch, plus I think we were just going the wrong way on the tune up. Hopefully we've got it going in the right direction. I guess I'll find out Friday when I let the clutch out."

Jones and partner Paul Kelly are excited about racing at a track the caliber of Houston Raceway Park, known for it's record-setting performances. They also enjoy racing in their home state of Texas.

"I'm sure it will be a fast field and a fast race," commented Jones. "Hopefully we can get back to being consistent. I know it's the old cliche, but consistency wins races. We're hoping to run consistent and fast. We also want to make a good showing for all of our sponsors that are back on board with us in 2008. Without the support of Painless Performance, Skinz Wraps, Vistaplex Video Surveillance, Royal Purple Oil and Comp Cams, we wouldn't be out here."

Qualifying begins on Friday with two sessions for the alcohol cars, followed by one final session Saturday morning. Eliminations begin with round one on Saturday afternoon and final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday.
