Whiteley doubles up with second Sonoma win
Takes National and Division 7 points leads in the process

SONOMA, Calif. – After back to back weekends of racing at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif., NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster driver Jim Whiteley and the YNot Racing Team can boast a perfect 7-0 round record at the facility as the team picked up another win at this past weekend’s NHRA Division 7 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event. The win moves him to first in both national and Division 7 points standings. His 273.16 mph blast in the first round was the fastest run ever by a Blown Alcohol Dragster.

Whiteley, from Grand Junction, Colo., qualified his Norm Grimes tuned machine on the pole with a 5.311 second run at 270.86 mph. In round one, he took out Houston winner Randy Eakins with a 5.309 second run at 273.16 mph. The semifinals would be a rematch of last weekend’s final round against Mark Niver, who won national events in Topeka and Seattle earlier this year. Whiteley ran a 5.342 at 271.41 mph to advance to the final.

Whiteley’s final round opponent would be first time finalist, Del Cox, Jr. Whiteley and the YNot Team once again remained the picture of consistency with a 5.314 at 273.11 mph to collect his second divisional win of the year.

“It was another good weekend for us,” said Whiteley. “We kept the same mindset from last weekend, to stay consistent. The car ran so good last weekend, it wasn’t hard to leave it alone. This was a big win for us, because it gives us the points lead and puts us back in the hunt for the championship. There’s still a lot of racing left to go. Hopefully we can keep the momentum up and keep winning.”
