Despite qualifying strong, tireshake bites Whiteley in round one

POMONA, Calif. - Despite a strong qualifying performance, NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster pilot Jim Whiteley fell prone to tireshake in round one of this past weekend's CARQUEST Auto Parts Winternationals at Auto Club Raceway in Pomona, Calif. Anchored by strong numbers in Pomona and in testing, the 'YNot Racing' team is confident of their chances going forward.

Whiteley, of Grand Junction, Colo., qualified his Norm Grimes tuned Blown Alcohol Dragster second in the 16 car field with a 5.332 at 267.80 mph. In his first round match up with Jeff Isbell, Whiteley experienced heavy tireshake in low gear, forcing him to pedal, which gave Isbell the window he needed to get by with his 5.550 at 255.63 mph to Whiteley's off-pace 5.649 at 260.56 mph.

The next event for the YNot Racing team will be the NHRA Division 7 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series opener at Firebird Raceway outside of Phoenix, Feb. 29 - Mar. 2.
