Minor Parts Failure Ends Whiteley’s Weekend

Medford, Oregon - September 25, 2006 The YNOT team’s confidence was running high after a first round win during Saturday’s eliminations at the LODRS Division Six final event at Champion Raceway, in Medford, Oregon. After struggling to get down the track on Friday, during qualifying, many teams would be discouraged, but not the YNOT Team. “We had really awesome early numbers, but had trouble getting the power to the ground in the back half, so we had some work to do, but I knew we’d be alright” said driver and team owner Jim Whiteley. That work paid off with a stellar 5.49 in their first round win over Brandon Johnson.

The team’s second round opponent was Division Seven Title contender Chris Demke. Demke was first off the mark, but was soon passed by Whiteley, when a crank trigger (Ignition Pick-up Sensor) failed on the YNOT dragster and thus resulted in a supercharger explosion that rendered the engine useless, and Demke was able to labor by for the narrow victory, 6.08 to a 6.33. “It’s a bummer to have a $30.00 dollar part cost us a win. We felt we had them covered, and all indications show us to be right, but we lost that crank trigger, and that’s all she wrote” said Whiteley late Saturday evening.

Team Manager Annie Whiteley made it to the 3rd Round of eliminations in Top Comp, driving her 32 Bantam Roadster.

The YNOT Team will next compete at the Division Seven Final Event of the year held at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, October 3-5th, 2006.

    Saturday’s Eliminations

1st Round Jim Whiteley vs. Brandon Johnson- Johnson gains a slight starting line advantage, but is quickly erased by Whiteley who runs his quickest time of the weekend and improves on his qualifying time by nearly .23 hundredths of a second.

2nd Round Jim Whiteley vs. Chris Demke- Demke with the better light but Whiteley begins to run him down, Demke incurs engine problems , and Whiteley goes by Demke, only to have the supercharger fail with a bang, and Demke goes back around for the win. 6.08 to 6.33
