Jim Whiteley looking to stay hot in Norwalk

Div 7 2012_lvms 016.JPG NORWALK, Ohio – Current NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster points leader Jim Whiteley and his YNot Racing Team will be looking for their fourth-straight win in as many weeks during this weekend’s Summit Racing Equipment Nationals at Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio. He enters hot off a win at last weekend’s national event in Chicago, and hopes to improve on his current ten round win-streak.

Whiteley, from Grand Junction, Colo., is excited to be racing at Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park for the first time this weekend.

“This is a really nice facility,” said Whiteley. “I’m really impressed. We have heard that the racing surface is just as nice as the rest of the facility. Right now it’s supposed to be pretty warm on Friday and Saturday, but cool down on Sunday. It should make for a heck of a race.”

Despite having one of the best seasons of his career, he is quick to point out past performance doesn’t guarantee future performance. Under this year’s points structure, racers can claim points at their best seven out of the first ten national events they attend and the best three of the first six regional events they claim. Whiteley currently has three national event wins in five starts and already has maxed out his regional points with three wins.

“There is still a lot of racing left to do,” stated Whiteley. “We have to stay focused because the new points structure really puts a lot of emphasis on national event points. Norm [Grimes – Crew Chief] and the guys are doing a heck of a job right now. Hopefully we can stay on the roll we have been on and finish the deal.”

Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars with two sessions, followed by one final session on Saturday. Eliminations will begin with round one on Saturday and final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday.
