Whiteley reaches semifinals at Top Gun

Fallon, Nevada - Top Gun Raceway: Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, 7-6
Jim Whiteley’s YNOT Racing TAD team was not disappointed in the weekend’s second round finish. “We had another solid outing, my driving is getting better each time and the crew is working really well together. We are looking forward to the Las Vegas Divisional and the National Event.”

The team was looking for another solid day of racing when eliminations rolled around on Sunday. The day started out well as the team faced Mike Austin in the first round of eliminations and was able to improve on their qualifying times and run a very solid 5.74 second run at 245.78 miles per hour to defeat Austin’s game 5.93 second run.

A major problem was averted when oil was noticed on the track after the run and a small crack was found in the dry sump oil tank. Quick repairs by team consultants Mike and Lindsey Strassburg fixed the tank. Co-Crew Chief Jeff Strassburg stated “We’re gonna have to step it up for Federlin. He is running fast and like a bracket car but on the other hand we have to be careful, he’s got lane choice and I’m pretty sure he’ll put us in that right lane.” Which, is what Federlin did and while the early numbers looked good for the YNOT team, but the car started to spin the tires and move around quite a bit slowing the car down. Despite Federlin loosing a motor at 1100 feet there just wasn’t enough race track for Whiteley to catch Federlin and the YNOT Team was done for the weekend. 5.76 to a 5.88.
