    Just received an email that safety pioneer Jim Diest of Diest Safety died this morning.

    Sorry to heat that. I'll miss seeing him in Bonneville playing the slot machines in the hotels at night. My condolences to his family and friends.

    Jim was a real pioneer in this sport and a real nice guy to boot.

    I never got a chance to meet Mr. Diest. I heard he was a great guy. I remember the owner of the funnycar I worked for always asking why his suit was so much heavier than most other suits. He was obviously a great safety leader and knew his stuff.

    My condolences to his family. He will be missed.
