Jeff Veale Racing Team Pleased With Division Three Opener

Jeff Veale may not have qualified at the Division Three opener in Indianapolis, but the team left Indy pleased with their performance, and are ready for the second Division Three event in Norwalk, Ohio.

Not being able to capitalize on Thursday’s testing, the team made a nice 6.20/169 half-track pass in the opening session Friday, yielding decent early numbers, favorable data and a good baseline to work with.

"It was great to be in a race car again,” said Veale. The weekend was really just going to be a planned test session for us. Our initial intention was to make a few test passes on Thursday, and head into Friday ready to make full runs. When that opportunity passed, our plan was to make 1/8 mile passes on the first two runs, and go after it on the third. With one session cancelled due to rain, and the favorable data we gained from the first pass, we decided to attempt a full pass in the final session.”

With a wheels-up launch, Veale had a nice run going before lifting at 1000 feet, stopping the timers at 5.67 seconds at 247 mph. The pass kept Veale in the ninth spot at the conclusion of qualifying, falling just short of the 5.58 bump. The car responded to the changes made, with fuel management tweaks doing exactly as planned.

“I was very happy with the 5.67,” Veale commented. “The fuel was under power at only 93%, the car was 60 lbs heavy, and we left the 3rd element on the wing for kicks. Overall the weekend was good, we learned, and didn’t hurt anything. I would have liked having one more run, so we’ll never know what a 3rd qualifier would have brought.”

The team is optimistic and is looking forward to the Division 3 event at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio, May 16-18. In the meantime, the team has been invited to and will compete at the Thunder Nationals at 131 Motorsports Park at Martin, Michigan on Saturday May 10th.
