I'm wondering how you put the Ø.041" SS wire into the groove?

I use an aluminum headed hammer and tap it in. It usually takes forever:mad: it usually pops back out. There has to be a faster way.

I might add that we currently put the wire into the cast iron block.

How do you do it? What's your trick?

on my stuff I never have a problem use a brass hammer..but when I was working on Tom Hoover's funny car we used to use super glue to hold it in..Dave

Most of the newer hemi heads come with "hoops".

These are a ring that is pressed into the head. A receiver groove aprox. .080 X .050 wide groove is cut into the head, and most stick out .020 to .027.

This eliminates the wire, seals better, and never falls out.

Call AJPE, BAE, or Total Flow about this.

Ya mean like a hula hoop? lol I know the o-ring should stick out 25% of the gasket thickness and have .001 interference and the receiver groove should be 125% wider than the o-ring wire and 75% of the protrusion of the wire for depth. They say that you dont need any more than .010-.012 sticking out on thicker than .050 gaskets, but i like a little more than that.

Once you run hoops, you'll throw rocks at wire!

Are these hoops solid wire or hollow wire? Round in cross section or square? Never heard of these before........

Now its clear. See this link from the Total Flow site........

Yet another option is hollow gas filled rings/hoops. Commonly called Wills rings or Cooper rings. Garloc Helicoflex is one of the primary vendors of these. If machined right they act like elastic donuts just in case the head lifts a bit.
