Indy blower manifold doesn't fit

    Having a problem with an Indy blower manifold not quite fitting a TFX and AJPE stage 2 heads. All std. deck height stuff (I’m positive of this). The manifold sits about .030”-.040” high, so you can still see some intake port o-ring material in the intake runners when the manifold is seated. Anyone have a similar experience? If so, how did you solve it?

    Are the manifold studs out of the heads? If not remove them and see if it will sit down.
    I have one block that was .100 tall that I cut down to std. and it is tight.

    No studs. Hell, I was thinking about putting the studs in to how much that would pull it down when they were tighened up. It can't be much!

    Sounds like the manifold is for a tall deck block. It would have to be sitting more than .030-.040" high to see o-ring material in the head intake ports.

    No, I have .100 tall deck manifold and it sits a whole lot farther up, like 1/2"

    If you have measured the manifold and know for a fact it is correct, and you have measured from the crankshaft centerline to the deck on the block and know for sure what the deck height is and aren't just taking someones word for all this then the only other factor would be the heads themselves, meaning someone could have cut a bunch off of them to raise the compression or to do a cheap repair.

    Borrowing another standard deck manifold and setting it on may give you at least a clue where to start looking. If another manifold fits then you need to have the Indy manifold trimmed up a bit to fit your set up.

    I hate to ask a dumb question, but you don't have some thick end gaskets or other material on the ends that may be holding the Indy manifold up off the surface?

    No, Randy, its the manifold. I just put new rods and pistons in this and we know for a fact that it is a std deck height. Measured everything when we tore it down for the rebuild. There are no end gaskets fitted and that gap is between 1/4 and 5/16, which is workable.

    It appears to be a botched quality issue from Indy and I am the second owner of the manifold that has come to that conclusion. And both of us have been doing this stuff for longer than most readers of this forum have had their feet on the planet. It can be machined to fix (I am thankful that it wasn't too small!), but that's a sorry situation considering the money spent by me and the original purchaser. Indy needs to get their shit together, because they have sold their last piece of no-quality shit to this shop, this race team and anyone that cares to ask me about their crap!

    I just saw Andy Wilfong was also helping in the Tech section and it looks like he and I were on the same page which makes me feel good!

    Glad you figured it out. Very frustrating.
