We put them in about half way through the season last yr and like them. They don't require new plumbing or more hose ends, but they are worth a lot of money per pound:eek:haha

How much dose these -8 cone screens change the tune up on a blown alky motor?

None that I can tell. The GPM we saw on the flow meter remained the same before and after installation.

I could not tell the difference in tune up, but I have one in the port line and one in the hat line. When running about 1600 HP worth of fuel and than splitting that because of the hat and port lines, I don't run much GPM through the screens.

I can tell you that the screen sticks in too far to put on the inlet side of a -8 check valve, it hits the poppet inside there.

RBS Superchargers sent one of the -8 in-line screen filters to test a while back.

I was testing a system with a 990 pump at the time and put the filter after the pressure sensor and before the flow sensor. The results with and without:

Nearly a tenth of a gallon lost isn't a huge deal...as long as it is cleaned before every run. Every speck of crap blocking one of the little holes in the screen means the flow number will drop off even more. With a regular pleated mesh filter, there's lots of headroom for gunk to build up and not change flow at all. So, I wouldn't say these inline filters are exactly transparent, but they're ok unless you're running a bigger pump. I'll test it with a 1200 pump in a week or so and see how things look. The loss should be even larger.

Judging by the size of the cone, I'd say someone made it just large enough to make up for the fact that the screen is approximately a 60% open mesh. The resulting open area in the cone is supposed to be about the same as the area of the -8 hole.

I also put the filter in backwards on the outlet side and ran the test again to see if things changed going through it in the other direction. They didn't at all. So...running one in each outlet of the barrel valve is the best setup in my opinion. The loss is minimized that way.

Thanks JR for sending this to evaluate.
