Well, right now alot of IHRA Funny Car guys are going to the PSI Roots. Rob Atchinson found it to be quite a bit better than the Kobelco he had on his car.
If Les Mellows see's this thread, he could give ALOT more insight on the differences in the different Roots blower brands.

Actually, I think Les is in San Antonio with Rob this weekend. I'm sure he'll respond after the weekend.

were still using our 4 year old k-8 Mert, we have modified it but even still its worked good. most are using Kobelco's they are very well built. and that new PSI seems to be awesome, will see!

    Blowers

rumblefish here is my two cents. all the blowers out right now are good. it comes down to a few things. money, maintenence, and what are your goals for your race team. the littlefield has the newest billet kobelco k-11 rotors, large 1.500 shafts, all billet bearing plates and all surfaces are o-ringed. cost 4800.00
kobelco superman has some designs that lend to a more efficent way of filling the supercharger with air loading the rotors from the front leading edge. they use some different bearings which are very nice and have all billet bearing plates,o-ringed surfaces, and the bearing plates fit into the bore of the case and are dowel pinned giving a very nice fit to the case. also in my opinion the kobleco is the easiest to service on the restrips. cost 7000.00
psi has similar designs to the superman main difference is on the end of the rotors there are plates that contain stripping to try and seal the rotors to the case better and most of the ones that i have seen are dual gear. also there case i believe is magnesium giving you a little lighter part. cost 8300.00
also psi taking a special tool kit to service i think is 800.00 but it allows you to service yourself saving some money.
ssi blowers the ssi group has there version of the superman i belive called the f-2 they make some good blowers but sometimes they are hard to get from them they have the same basic features and are very easy to service. you can also get them in mag or alum case if you are trying to lighten your ride up. they are also the only ones using stright cut gears and full round tubing teflon. usual cost 6500.00
as i say all these blowers are good but remember little things like manifold flatness, proper fuel going thru the blower, maitnence of the blower are all very important. years ago bob newberry went 5.69 with a littlefield hi helix and sees rotors it is all in your combonation and how you twist the knobs.
the differnce in cost i think has a lot to do with engineering costs and operating costs. it would be a neat day to have a blower shoot out. with some of the top teams having blower dynos and as well as kobelco, ssi and psi everyone should meet one day and bring there best. it could be rated on boost, air temperature, how the boost climbed or didn't, how fast could the manufacture service there own supercharger, and how was the blowers repetability. as i said above if you have a unlimited budget get anyone you want if you have a limited budget get the best blower that your program can affoord and get out to the track and enjoy. if you spend all your money always trying to get the most expensive parts before you get to the track chances are you will get burned out and not enjoy as much. talk to you later jr

JR.......Now let's talk about the modification you have to make after you get them, to make them work. The plates, housing modifications, etc. I guarantee you the top cars aren't running them right out of the box.
