    4-7 swap

A 4-7 swap cam may make more power, but the engine will fire on the same rod journal in sequence, which might hurt crankshaft life

I'm With Eli,we Tried It,we May Have Got A Mile Per Hour More.it Definitley Was Not What We Were Hoping, and Not Worth The Money.i Think Most Guys With Your Application Are Running A Crane 296/500-114x Or 116x.there May Be Guys Flyin With A 4/7 Swap Cam But It Wasn't The Answer For Us.

Both cams fire the same rod journal in sequence,twice,-4&3 and 5&6 for the standard and 7&8 and 5&6 for the 4-7 swap. The only difference between the two cams is that one fires 2 cylinders beside each other in sequence at the back of the engine, (5-7 )and the other at the front, (2-4.) The only thing that it might effect is fuel distribution in the manifold. Most of the top runners that I know use 4-7 swaps.I don't know if it makes more power but one thing is, it make the motor sound a bit different.

Crane R296/500 R16 is a good all around camshaft for an alcohol engine.

We have been running a Crane 4/7 swap all year, but are putting a motor in the car tonight with an Erson Std Firing cam of the same grind. I have heard the motor "sounds" different also, but will be able to tell you if there is a difference in performance or sound real soon!
