Heli-Coil and Time-Sert Info

first off... anyone out there with experiences between the two? preferences? pros/cons?

on a similar note... is the outer repair thread the same between the two brands? will a time-sert thread into a hole tapped with a heli-coil repair tap? i looked up online and they use the same outer drill for the insert so was wondering if there is any interchangability

on first glance... the time-sert looks to be a better repair option? but i've only used heli-coils in the past. some input would be great. thanks

 

Having used both in my day job as a mechanic and in racing I prefer the time serts for thread repairs,I like them as they are proper insert rather than a coiled insert and have found them to hold up a lot better especially on racing parts,I'm not sure if a time sert would screw into a already threaded hole that a helicoil has been fitted in though I'm afraid,time serts are more expensive but hey you get what you pay for and i feel it's worth the extra not to have a thread fail again !!!!

 

When you use a time cert you have a special cutter to recess the top part of the timecert..all different from a helicoil

Time Serts are the only way to go. They have Big Serts that can repair failed Helicoils.

 

Hands down ...... Time sert !
