I'm putting a new 14-71 hh on a 528 bae stage 3 motor. Currently it has a smaller hat a total of 47 square inch opening and i was wondering if you could put too much hat over the blower for the cubic inches of the engine. The big and ugly is 72 sq in and i would hate to be choking the motor. Thanks for any input, trent

What overdrive are you running and how much boost do you make? How high in RPM are you going?

I'm not sure on the pully. I want to set it on kill so i was going to get the max boost and overdrive it to the most allowed in nhra tafc

You need the biggest hat you can see over the top of. You do need to make sure that the hat matches the opening in the top of your blower.Try http://www.dmpeinc.com/

What kind of new blower is it? You are going to need the best to run against the screw blower guys in NHRA. Hopefully a DMPE M5 blower, or a Kobelco K11 or a PSI Rootes blower.

You might want to consider the 2 lobe Hampton 8/71 roots blower, It puts out as much air per revolution as a striped 12/71, It don't have stripes so you wont have to re strip it , It takes less H/P to turn so it's probably better than a 14/71, and it's lighter.;):)

i have the injector for you 11" tall 5-9/16 butterflies all the air you will need for the roots but i dont think with the roots it will be enough for you to compete with the screws in nhra good luck

    Blowers + injector

Don,t spend your money on a roots for NHRA. It will cost you twice as much to run a new, Roots DMPE etc. and injector. Buy a used PSI and injector, and spend the extra money some where else on the car. You cant run 5.60s with a roots. Have you ever played with a Psi turn the screws by hand and you will see. Just one persons opinion. Because I have been there. Don

Don is so rite!!!!!! also on kill you might look into a spare motor:eek:..no pun intended that is why we carry spares with us..and that is compleat motors not parts:D:D.. as for a hat, go big I have been looking between a carbon fiber and the big and ugly I went for the big and ugly and the reason for this is the blower belt won't break it and they idel good also, but yes the weigh more..just my 2 cents, and Jim has a very nice carbon hat for sale you won't find one for a better buy than his...Dave
