Greg Hunter and Ken Gilmour Motorsports head to Mission Raceway for the first NW regional event.

Greg Hunter round one.jpg After competing in the South West for the first two races of 2012 the Kenny Gilmour TAD team is back in familiar grounds for their third race of the year.

New driver Greg Hunter made solid strides in his first two events and continued to do so this past weekend at the only NHRA regional event in Canada.

Mission Raceway hosted the Lordco Parts BC Nationals in front of a appreciative crowd and beautiful weather. Greg Hunter was making his first appearance at the West Coast premier drag rag strip and enjoyed the experience very much. “What a beautiful area” Hunter stated when asked what he though of the river side facility surrounded by mountains. Corrected altitude conditions that were less than 1000 feet greeted the team in two of the four runs over the three days. The goal for the team was to made solid runs without the gremlins that have plagued them so far this year. They did accomplish most of what they set out to do, but did not walk away with a round win. In qualifying the Exact Air Tad finished with a 5.53/250 mph best that put the team in the #4 spot in the field. In round one, they took on Manitoba driver Gord Gingles and the Clif Bakx A/Fuel dragster. Greg left on Gord by .06, but the car shook real hard starting at 100 feet and Greg had to man handle the car the entire 1320 feet. He fell short by a couple car lengths at the finish line. “Man that was serious shake”, the car left hard with a strong .938 60 foot and we had the lead until just past the 330 mark, but then it nosed over and I legged it out to the finish line but my opponent was a couple car lengths in front of me at the finish line. We thought we had the blower issues sorted out but then a bad batch of keepers failed and we had to sort through what we had and were able to keep the bad batch off the car for round one, but then the car shook real hard. My head is still rattling’, Hunter stated after the run. “We will try and sort out that issue before our next event the Route 66 Nationals at Joliet”.

Greg and Kenny want to thank their sponsors, Exact Air, Omega 2000 Cribbing, Lucas Oil, Mopac Auto, Dark Side Racing, Goodyear, Jet Equipment Canada, GRP Connecting Rods, Winberg Crankshafts, National Transmissions (Calgary) Paron Paint and Body, Mechanix Wear, Berube Custom tanks, Peter Vaughn Custom Glass, NGK Spark Plugs, Koolsville Golf Cars, VP Fuels USA, Top Gun Coatings, Rock Bit Industries and JE Pistons.
