I am in the process of building a funny car to run in alcohol class. I am asking for advice on the steering. on my alcohol dragster we run r&p steering, but every funny car has a outdated ( to me) pitman arm stye steering box. is the a reason for this? installing r&p is a simple tack and want to here why its not done, thanks

x2 on the engine thing. All the stiletto racks I have seen have the input dead center. The only way to get the steering connecting rods to go down the middle is to lift the engine up, and that will screw everything up.

actually there are several r&p steering funny cars. From a drivers point, I've been told they are very sensitive to input..and they don't use the dragster type center rack.they use a series of u joints and shafts to get the rod down the side instead of the middle.I'm thinking one of Nicks cars that RC Sherman drove had it too

I am in the process of upgrading an older f/c chassis to run t/d (altered) which has a r/p in it.This would not be my choice, but it appears to have lasted for some time.Just my opinion.

we have done it on one before, you use U-joints to get steering outside the frame rail around the motor. it works fine, but it was on a long frt engine car ( over 150"w.b) my concern is 125"w/b being to sensitive......( my wife says I am not sesitive at all).
just dont want to have a car that you cant get donw the track

I was going to try a rack on my car everyone said it was to sensitive. Have a friend who did it , know he just bounces off the guardrail about every run.

    Ratio

I have CRS, so don't remember exact ratios, but lightweight dragster boxes I think are half again faster than standard F/C boxes. You can't get the spindle arms short enough.
There is a real good reason there are so few. Remember " Pioneers got arrows in their butts" !

Steering ratio is to fast for short wheelbase car, don't try reinventing the wheel,
