    Hi Guys,

Have a Littlefield 1471 HH retro.
One of the front cover allen head bolts head broke off. (bolts the cover to the blower body).
It's broken inside the housing so the cover has to come off.
It's leaking VERY badly so I need to fix it.
I've never taken one of them apart before.

Can I just remove all the bolts, vise grip and remove what's left of the bolt and assemble OR is it more complicated than that?
If it's more complicated, what do I need to do and look out for?

    Thanks in advance.
    Frank

Mine has a spacer behind the cover. If I remember correctly, some bolts are screwed to spacer while most go through to the case. I just took mine apart and it was pretty straight forward. But then mine was already broken so I wasn't too worried about it.

Frank it is not complicated. You can do it on the motor or take it off and stand it straight up on the rear end. First take the snout off then the front cover. Some you can leave the snout attached. Not sure about your blower. Standing up on the end will keep the oil from coming out or you can drain out all the oil and replace it. There should be two empty bolt holes on either side that you can screw bolts into to push the front cover off the case. You might want to think about changing the oring if any signs of damage. The bolts should not be tightened enough to break the head off. If I remember correctly they only need 120-140 inch lbs of torque. As far as replacement oil you can use a good two-cycle oil. You can call Andy at Littlefield (714) 992-9292 and get the exact amount of oil and the torque specs for all the bolts.

    Thanks guys.
I bought the blower used. It seemed ok until recently.
I'll try to replace the bolt on the engine first, if not than I'll take it off.

    Thanks again.

My LF hhr had bolts that where over torqued also. Luckly it was just stretched and not seized. I made a bushing that would fit the front cover, and used a left handed .093 drill with intentions of expanding to about .202. Before the .093 got thru the bolt, out it came. I'd bet all the others, front and back are over torqued also.

Take the rest of the cover bolts out, remove the rear bearing cap, drive the whole rotor end plate and gear assembly out as a unit, now you can attend to the broken bolt, sometimes they will unscrew by hand. Good luck, you can call me at the shop, I'm there at 6:30, 714-992-9292 if you have any further ???? and or problems, I'll be glad to help.

    Another Question.

Speaking to the guys that restripped/remanned the blower, when they put a NEW hub on it, the splines were VERY tight. it went on about a quarter of the way, they had to use the bolts to draw it in the rest of the way.

    So now my question:
I'm assuming that this will now be a royal pain in the BUTT to remove because the splines will probably NOT let the hub slide off.

What would be the best way to tackle this, sounds like I'll have to "pound/pry" the hub off before I can remove the cover?

    Any advise would be GREAT.
I just don't want to damage anything, it runs good other than leaking oil.
And beleive me, I don't want to be pounding on the hub.

    Thanks again,
    Frank
