Not that I don't need a bit of help with the race car, but given that 90 % of the Toters in the pits are Freightliner Columbia's, I'm a hoping I could get a hand with an issue I have w/ the 12 spd Meritor Freedomline tranny I have in my '03 Columbia, as I can't imagine I'm the only one.
And at this point it's not serious, but I don't want it to be.
Periodically, for no apparent reason, and quite erratically (hours with nothing, then every 10 minutes, then repeat) the dash displays a 'SM' fault code (meaning system malfunction), but the transmission works perfectly.
it's just that it's happening more often with each trip, which leans me to believe 'something' is getting worse, but as the shifting is done with air & electronics, it should either work, or not...and at this point it all works great.
I'm looking to see if anyone else has or had this similar issue, and either: is there a solution, or: does someone know a direction and/or person that is/are experts with this type of transmission.
    Any help is appreciated!
    Thanks!

Take it to a Freightliner dealer or somewhere where they can plug into the computer and run a diagnosis check. It could be something as simple as a sensor or switch sending a false signal and it's showing up on the display, or it could be something more serious. I had a TPS (throttle position sensor) screw up on mine and it effected the transmission function.

    trans trouble

Had same thing happen to my 03. Did all electrical tests, air checks, all tested ok. put a new shift computer on. Same ### problem. After some hair pulling I found a ground wire on the top of the trans loosing connection now n then. You will have too lay down on top of engine and reach in real far to access it. Hope this will help.
